Swift Trail re-opening moved to April 29

GRAHAM COUNTY — The Coronado National Forest is hoping Swift Trail (State Highway 366) will be open before the end of the month.

The road above Shannon Campground is closed annually due to winter conditions in the higher elevations making driving dangerous.

Typically, the roadway is re-opened in early April, but this year has seen a late start to warmer temperatures on Mount Graham, and there are still 2- to 3 feet of snow at Columbine Visitor Center.

The new target date for re-opening is April 29; however, that date can change based on weather conditions.

The National Weather Service is predicting no moisture and daily high temperatures to range between the upper 30s and mid 40s on the mountain over the next 10 days.

This post has been updated to say 2 to 3 feet instead of inches.
