SIERRA VISTA — The field to be the Democratic nominee to face incumbent U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., has winnowed.
On her social media Tuesday, Aiden Swallow announced she was dropping out of the race for Congress in Arizona 6th District, and instead will run as a Democrat for a seat in the state Legislature from District 19.
She said the Democratic field in the race for Congress is filled with candidates “running for the right reasons,” while Republican legislative incumbents Rep. Lupe Diaz, Rep. Gail Griffin and Sen. David Gowan are all currently uncontested.
“I couldn’t help to think they were going to get away without a fight, especially considering they have done far more damage to Arizona and LD-19 than Ciscomani,” Swallow wrote.
In the most recent Congressional campaign finance filings with the Federal Elections Committee, Swallow shows no dollars raised or spent through June 30. Two other Democrats also show 0 dollars — Samantha Severson and Johnathan Burma.
Democrat Chris Donat raised $14,898.69 and spent $6,129.03, and Democrat Mo Goldman raised $253,921.48 while spending $57,512.93. Independent Trevor Dickerson raised $19,326.06 and spent $5,371.50.
The top Democratic fund-raiser in the race for Congress is JoAnna Mendoza. She raised $1.3 million through June 30 and spent $667,690.08, leaving her with $585,234.46 in cash-on-hand.
However, that pales compared to Ciscomani, who raised $2.3 million and spent $584,469.75 during the same time period. He has a nearly four-to-one lead over Mendoza in cash-on-hand, with nearly $2 million.
