State allocates money to Graham County for road improvements

GRAHAM COUNTY — With July the start of the new fiscal year for Arizona, Graham County can expect to see more road improvements, thanks to money from the state Legislature.

In House Bill 2543, the Legislature authorized $9.1 million to Graham County, Thatcher and the San Carlos Apache Tribe for six roadway projects over the coming year.

The projects include:

● $487,821 to Graham County for intersection reconstruction at Norton Road and Reay Lane

● $1.8 million to Graham County for improvements to Safford Bryce Road in the vicinity of Talley Wash Crossing

● $4.5 million to Thatcher for improvements to 8th Street, between 20th and 1st avenues

● $403,236 to the San Carlos Apache Tribe for streetlights along White Mountain and Airport roads

● $530,459 to the San Carlos Apache Tribe for sidewalk extensions and improvements on BIA 170

● $1.4 million to the San Carlos Apache Tribe for Peridot Siding Road pavement resurfacing between BIA 170 and State Route 70

In total, the Legislature allocated more than $328 million for road related projects across the state designated as regional priorities by the greater Arizona councils of governments and metropolitan planning organizations.
