SAN CARLOS — On Thursday, the San Carlos Apache Tribe initiated Stage 2 fire restrictions, as two wildfires continue to burn on the reservation.

Under the Stage 2 fire restrictions, camping and campfires are prohibited, smoking is only allowed in an enclosed building or vehicle, and Sunrise Dances and other large gatherings are not allowed in forested areas.

There’s currently no timeline on when the restrictions will be lifted.

The Bronco fire, about 30 miles northeast of San Carlos, grew slightly Thursday, to 18,156 acres. It started Aug. 3 from lightning and is at 21-percent containment.

The Goodwin fire, about 12 miles southwest of Bylas and 12 miles northeast of Klondyke, also grew slightly Thursday to 1,059 acres. It started Aug. 6 from lightning and is at 32-percent containment.
