SAFFORD — For its work helping those in the community who are most in need, the St. Vincent de Paul Society was presented with the Pride of Safford Award Thursday.

“It’s very humbling, I think, for all of us. Because there’s such a great need in our community for what St. Vincent de Paul is able to provide,” said Theresa Ortega. “It’s an honor to go down there, and we invite everybody to come and see what happens. And lend a hand, if they have two minutes.”

The nomination for the award states that St. Vincent de Paul Society provides services to any in Graham County in need of food, shelter, baby supplies, as well as and help with utility payments and other emergency expenses.

In the food pantry, volunteers arrange fruits and vegetables, donated by local stores, to give to clients at no charge. In addition, those in need can receive a supply of meats and breads each month.

The organization accepts donations of clothing, furniture and miscellaneous items for its thrift store, where purchases help fund services.

St. Vincent de Paul Society is located at 221 E. Main St. in Safford.
