SAFFORD — The first Pride of Safford Award for 2024 went to Greg St. Hilaire on Thursday at the Safford City Annex.

St. Hillaire was nominated for his extensive volunteerism. For the last 18 years, he has been coordinating the local Marine Corps Reserve annual Toys for Tots campaign.

During that same time, he’s been helping the homeless move off the streets and into affordable housing. He teaches life skills to men and families, as well as runs the Chap Ministries Men’s Homeless Shelter.

And for the past five years, he’s coordinated the effort to ensure that homebound seniors and those in assisted living facilities are not forgotten by purchasing birthday and Christmas gifts through Chap Ministries’ Adopt-a-Senior Program. Nominations for the Pride of Safford Award are being accepted at the Safford City Annex.
