Silvia Monge Cordova was born on September 15, 1942, in Ajo, Arizona and entered into rest on July 5, 2022, in Safford, Arizona. She is survived by: the love of her life, Ernesto Cordova. They married on November 12, 1960, in Sonoita, Sonora Mexico. Together they had 3 children: Frankie (Olga), Ernesto Jr (Alicia “Bevy”), and Brenda. From those children she was blessed with six grandchildren: Michael (Adreanna), Joel (Carmen), Andrew (Tanya), Denise (Joel), Erika (Charlie), & Jasmine (Donovan); and 21 great-grandchildren.
Nana Silvia enjoyed family time. The grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her. Nana’s house felt like a second home for us, because you always felt like you belonged. There was always food to eat from “Nana’s Kitchen” and you were never hungry for long. None of the grandchildren could ever forget the famous breakfasts Nana made. Her beans, chorizo, papitas, and menudo will never be replicated. When you asked her to teach you how to cook them there were never measurements; it was a pinch of this, and a handful of that. She was just a legend in the kitchen. While Nana cooked, she would either be whistling her heart out or popping her “chicle.” There was nothing like it. We will miss her so much.
Another thing that Nana held very dear to her was her faith. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 12, 1977, in Phoenix, Arizona. She always looked forward to the many promises held out in the Bible. She would spend her time browsing JW.org and she especially enjoyed watching the monthly broadcast. One scripture she was particularly fond of is at Revelation 21:4 where it says: “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry or pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” How she looked forward to this wonderful promise, living on a Paradise Earth free of pain. She was eager to share her faith at any opportunity she had. We know that Jehovah God will not forget the love she showed for His name. (Hebrews 6:10) One of the last conversations we had with Nana she expressed how she prayed to Jehovah God for strength, not only for herself but even more so for her family, to give us the strength to endure knowing that soon we would be losing a piece of our heart. She cared so much for all of us. We look forward to seeing Nana again one day in Paradise where she will no longer be in any pain.
The family would like to thank all of the nurses and doctors that have cared for our Nana, and for the friends that have offered their condolences. We really appreciate all of the love you have bestowed on our family.
Services for Silvia will be conducted on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Safford, Arizona.
