Graham County Sheriff’s Office Responds to 13 Incidents
The Graham County Sheriff’s Office responded to 13 incidents between Sept. 3 and the early morning hours of Sept. 4, according to the agency’s latest incident report. The calls included domestic disturbances, welfare checks, disorderly conduct, a trespassing-related complaint, traffic stops and civil matters.
One of the more significant incidents occurred Wednesday morning on U.S. Highway 70 in the Silver Creek area. A woman reported that her husband had grabbed her arm, leaving a mark. The report states that the husband was no longer physically present, and no weapons were reported.
Deputies later responded to East Plateau Drive regarding another dispute involving the same general parties. A woman reported that her former partner had threatened to have her fired from her job if she showed deputies evidence that he had abused her.
The Plateau Drive address generated another domestic-related call about an hour later. A man reported that the woman had broken vases and other household items. The report states that the woman was no longer at the location when deputies were contacted.
A welfare check requested by the North Carolina Department of Social Services was conducted on West Gayla Lane. The agency asked deputies to check on an individual and her 2-year-old son. The report provides no further details about the outcome of the welfare check.
Another welfare check late Wednesday night on East Nelson Drive in the Lonestar area involved a report that a child had allegedly been intentionally burned by a stepbrother. The child was reportedly with the caller, who also raised questions concerning custody. Later, the child’s mother requested a civil standby to retrieve the child.
Deputies also investigated a disorderly-conduct complaint at Jobis Market on U.S. Highway 191. A driver was accused of failing to signal a turn, and when the reporting party confronted him, the man reportedly got out of his vehicle and began yelling. Deputies were provided a description of the vehicle and checked nearby areas.
The report also includes a trespassing complaint on East Solomon Road involving two juveniles in a blue Chevrolet S-10. The juveniles were reportedly attempting to take bees from the property but left the area before deputies arrived.
In addition, deputies handled a vehicle inspection involving a semitrailer, multiple civil standbys involving the retrieval of personal belongings, and a traffic stop in which multiple violations were reported.
The final incident listed was a traffic stop shortly after midnight Sept. 4 near Lone Star Road and South First Avenue in Safford.
