Graham County Sheriff’s Office Responds to 27 Incidents

The Graham County Sheriff’s Office responded to 27 incidents between Sept. 10 and the early morning hours of Sept. 11, according to the agency’s latest incident report. Calls included a rollover crash, thefts, a drug-related incident at a school, a domestic disturbance, a welfare check involving a reported suicide threat, traffic stops and a DUI investigation.

One of the first calls of the reporting period involved a single-vehicle rollover crash near Frye Mesa Road and South Reay Lane shortly after midnight Sept. 10. The vehicle, a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero, rolled over near the first turn on Frye Mesa Road. No injuries were reported. The incident was initially classified as a motor-vehicle accident before being changed to a private-property accident.

A theft was reported later that morning on West Roper Lake Road. The reporting party told deputies that a Connex storage box had been stolen from the property. The box had last been seen approximately two to three weeks earlier.

Deputies also responded to an alarm at a rental property on North Ferguson Lane. The alarm system indicated a hallway smoke detector was activated. After investigating, deputies determined the alarm was apparently caused by dust from construction rather than a fire.

At approximately 2:03 p.m., deputies responded to Fort Thomas Elementary School Road for a drug-related incident involving students. The report states that marijuana edibles were found in the possession of students.

Another theft investigation was reported during the afternoon on East Powerline Road. A woman told deputies that her boyfriend had taken the battery from her vehicle following a fight. She was attempting to pick up her children when she lost contact with the reporting party because of poor cellphone service.

A domestic disturbance was reported Thursday evening at Roper Lake. A man and woman were reportedly yelling at each other near the boat dock. The reporting party was on the opposite side of the lake and was no longer at the scene. Deputies were unable to locate the involved subjects.

Later that night, deputies conducted a welfare check in Artesia after receiving a report that a woman had threatened to die by overdose. The report states that she had not taken any pills at the time of the call but had told the reporting party she would leave the residence before doing so. Deputies located two vehicles associated with the incident and requested medical assistance.

The reporting period concluded with a DUI investigation shortly after 1:29 a.m. Sept. 11 near West 20th Street and South First Avenue in Safford. The call began as a traffic stop and was subsequently changed to a traffic offense and then to DUI. Phlebotomy calls were logged at the Safford Police Department shortly afterward.

Other calls during the day included an abandoned four-wheeler reported near Bryce Ranch Road and North Blackpoint Road, several attempts to serve legal papers, a civil standby involving the retrieval of personal belongings, and a citizen request for information about county noise ordinances.

The report contains 27 total incidents handled by the Graham County Sheriff’s Office during the reporting period, which extended into the early morning hours of Sept. 11.
