Sheriff’s Office Incident Report – August 27, 2026

Graham County Sheriff’s Office handles 25 incidents, including structure fire, scam and highway crash

The Graham County Sheriff’s Office handled 25 reported incidents beginning Aug. 26 and continuing into the morning of Aug. 27, according to the department’s daily incident report.

The most serious incident occurred shortly after midnight Wednesday when deputies responded to a structure fire on West Mohave Street. The building was reported fully engulfed, with the fire threatening neighboring structures and vehicles. Deputies reported hearing propane tanks exploding as the fire spread to a nearby trailer. Residents were warned to clear the area, and additional fire resources from Safford and Thatcher were requested.

The fire rekindled Wednesday morning. At about 9:02 a.m., deputies received a report of visible flames and a fence post beginning to burn at the Mohave Street location. Fire personnel determined that nothing else was being threatened and described the activity as smoldering material from the previous night’s fire.

Deputies also investigated a fraud report involving a suspected scammer posing as an FBI agent. According to the report, the victim received messages indicating that inappropriate messages were being sent from her Apple account. She was subsequently contacted by someone identifying himself as “Adam Morgan from the FBI,” who requested $2,000. The victim sent the money and reported receiving additional calls demanding more.

Early Thursday morning, deputies assisted with a collision involving a semi and another vehicle near milepost 306 on U.S. 70. Initial reports indicated the roadway was blocked and injuries were unknown. Deputies later reported that both drivers said they were uninjured. DPS, ADOT and Bylas EMS were notified, and the road was eventually reported open in both directions.

A separate brush-fire report came in Thursday morning near U.S. 191 across from the Thunderbird area. Deputies found several piles of burning brush. One appeared to be controlled, while another had initially been reported as growing. By the time of the response, the piles appeared contained and were not spreading significantly.

Other calls included several welfare checks, traffic stops, a wanted-person call, a civil standby, a juvenile-related complaint and a report involving a marijuana vape allegedly possessed by a 17-year-old.

The report also included a 911 hang-up shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday. Dispatchers heard what sounded like someone yelling and later requested medical assistance for a male who was possibly experiencing a seizure.
