GRAHAM COUNTY — Two young men hiking Mount Graham last Friday found themselves in need of help.
The two contacted Graham County Sheriff’s Office when they realized they were not near their rendezvous point for the return home, and they were running low on food and water.
The pair said they had intended to “free hike,” avoiding trails on their hike to the top of the mountain, and discovered the terrain much harder to traverse than they anticipated, which put them significantly behind schedule.
Graham County Search and Rescue was called out and, about four hours after the hikers first called, found the men around a small fire they had built.
The two men were not injured, although both said their feet had started to go numb from the cold.
