Scuffle leads to arrest for outstanding warrant

SAFFORD — Despite conflicting stories about which woman first assaulted the other, and no witnesses to corroborate either’s story, one of the women involved still found herself booked into Graham County Jail.

Graham County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 8th Avenue, west of the Safford Bridge, following reports of an assault. A homeless woman who resides in a tent in the area said another woman struck her in the face, breaking the first woman’s glasses, when she wouldn’t allow the second woman in her tent.

The second woman said she brought groceries for the first, and then the first woman asked the second to buy her some meth. The second woman declined and said the first grabbed her by the wrist, scratching her.

Deputies suggested the women avoid each other in the future, and were ready to leave when a record’s check came back that the second woman had an active warrant out of Graham County Justice Court for disorderly conduct.

The woman was taken into custody without incident and booked into Graham County Jail.
