Sarah Morones

Sarah Morones, a resident of Maricopa, entered into peaceful rest Saturday, December 18, 2021, at her residence, with her loved ones near her side. She was 89.

Sarah was born on April 8, 1932, in Morenci, to Isidro and Carlotta Martinez. She was the baby of six children. She was a very devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She enjoyed praying the rosary and for the souls in purgatory every morning. In the evenings of non-dialysis days, it made her very happy to pray the rosary with daughter Diana and Fr. Rocky from Relevant Radio on YouTube. Sarah enjoyed visiting with family and friends by telephone on the weekends. She especially loved talking football with her grandson, Jeremy. She recently reconnected with a very good friend, Cecilia Mena, who helped her through some of her roughest dialysis days. Reading fiction, caring for her birds, following the Arizona Cardinals, and watching game shows were some of her other favorites. The Maricopa Public library staff was so wonderful to bring her books every few weeks and visit with her.

Sarah is survived by: her children, Larry (Becky), John (Veronica), Joe, Diana Ryan (Bill), Barbara Garcia (Ruben) and Robert (Colleen); her brother, Sam Martinez; twenty-one grandkids; twenty-nine great-grandkids with two great-grandkids on the way. Sarah was predeceased by: her husband of 64 years, Joe C. Morones; her parents, Isidro and Carlotta Martinez; her sister Josephine Granado; and three brothers, Ernesto, Jimmy, and Isidro “Chilo” Martinez.

Sarah loved her children, her brother, and all her family members so very much. She held them in her heart through to the very last day.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sarah will be celebrated Thursday, January 6, 2021, at 12:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Maricopa, by Rev. Jay Luczak.

The family will receive friends Thursday morning, January 6, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Maricopa.

Sarah will be laid to rest at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Clifton on Monday, January 10, 2021.
