PERIDOT — The San Carlos Apache Healthcare Corporation announced plans to develop a long-term care skilled nursing home facility on the reservation, and to make it happen, the Tribal Council allocated $36 million in American Rescue Plan Act money.

The facility will be constructed on an 840-acre parcel of land near Highway 70 and in close proximity to the hospital in Peridot. The 100-bed facility is expected to be opened by December 2024 and will create 155 new jobs.

The current nursing home will focus on caring for tribal member COVID-19 long-hauler patients and elder residents and will be a sustainable operation based upon current AHCCCS reimbursement rates

As a result of COVID, The tribe is experiencing a 20 percent mortality rate in those 65 and older, and a number of members 45 to 65 have seen permanent lung injury, requiring long-term care.
