BYLAS — The San Carlos Apache Tribe is asking for the public’s help in determining who may have started the Salt fire.

The tribe’s Forest Resource Program announced the fire, which started April 8 east of the Bylas Rodeo Grounds, is believed to be arson, and a reward of up to $10,000 is available to those who have information leading to an arrest and conviction.

The fire has burned nearly 4,000 acres along the Gila River and strong winds moved the fire east until a fire break was established just before Fort Thomas. It’s currently at about 35 percent containment.

Homes were threatened, which forced some evacuations, but, to date, no structures have been damaged.

Anonymous tips about the cause of the fire can be called into 1-800-47-ARSON (27766).
