SAFFORD — More than 200 children will have a happier holiday, thanks to the generosity of Safford residents.

Every tag on the City of Safford’s first ever Angel Wish Tree was selected and the gifts were returned for wrapping Monday.

“Every child will get something, and almost all of them will get every item that they wished for,” said Jamie Embick, Planning and Community Development director for the city.

Embick added that Freeport-McMoRan employees also stepped up to help, donating some extra toys from the company toy drive. And a donation of blankets came in, that the city will give to both Safe House and to the House of Hope for its coat and blanket drive to help the homeless.

Fifty-five families, with an average of four children each, were nominated for the tree by Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry and Mt. Graham Safe House. To ensure anonymity, donors were only given the child’s gender, age, sizes and hobbies/toy wishes.

The presents will be delivered to the families by city staff this week.
