Safford to begin fog sealing streets

SAFFORD — The City of Safford Streets Department has been applying a tar-like material to cracks on city roads during the winter months, and is about to take the next step in road maintenance.

Fog sealing is scheduled to take place April 7 through May 8, and involves applying an asphalt emulsion that seals, rejuvenates, and strengthens the pavement — helping prevent future damage.

For residents on streets scheduled for sealing, the city’s Streets Department team will deliver a flyer to residence’s door with the specific date the work will take place. Once the sealing is complete, the road will usually be ready to drive on within just a few hours.

City crews will place and remove traffic cones and barricades as needed. The city asks that residents do not move barricades and instead use alternate parking and travel routes while work is underway.

Every paved city street is on a three-year rotation.
