SAFFORD — City of Safford announced it will be performing street sealing this week.
On Monday, starting at 8 a.m., 8th Avenue will be sealed from 20th Street north to Relation Street.
On Wednesday, starting at 8 a.m., crews will be sealing Relation Street from 8th Avenue east to 1st Avenue (U.S. Highway 191)
“Crack sealing uses special materials to fill both small and large cracks. This helps extend the life of our roads and prepares them for the next step in the maintenance process: street sealing, also known as fog sealing,” city officials wrote in a prepared statement.
Fog sealing is scheduled to take place April 6 through May 6. Fog sealing is the application of an asphalt emulsion to seals, rejuvenate and strengthen pavement—helping prevent future damage.
City crews will place and remove traffic cones and barricades as needed, and the road will usually be ready to drive on within just a few hours.
Every paved city street is on a three-year rotation.
