Safford schools experience ‘soft lockdown’ during nearby police foot pursuit

SAFFORD — One man is in custody following a foot pursuit near area schools Tuesday.

Safford Police said Safford schools in the area of 10th Street were put on a “soft lockdown” during the chase for the suspect, who reportedly had a weapon. Once the suspect was captured and the scene secured, the lockdown was lifted.

Safford Police added that the incident led officers to a home on the 800 block of 10th Street.

Why the suspect was being pursued and how the home is involved was not immediately disclosed.

Assisting Safford Police in the incident was Thatcher Police and Graham County Sheriff’s Office.
