SAFFORD — On Monday, the Gila Valley experienced its first coronavirus-related death in nearly a month.
Graham County Health Department reported the death involved a Safford resident over the age of 65.
It was the first COVID-19 death in the Gila Valley since March 9, and brings Graham County’s total since the start of the pandemic to 77.
The number of newly infected by the virus continues to decline, with the Health Department reporting just nine new cases over the past seven days.
There have been just five cases over the first five days in April, which is 44 percent fewer than March at the same time and 78 percent below February.
