Safford PD investigates, finds no threat of weapon at Safford HS

SAFFORD — Reports of a weapon at Safford High School on Thurssday turned out to be unwarranted.

Safford Police responded to the school at 8:30 a.m. and immediately located the student who supposedly had the weapon.

Investigation showed the student did not have a weapon and there was no threat to the school, students, faculty or staff.

In a prepared release, Safford Police Chief Brian Avila said daily operations of the school were not disrupted by the investigation.

“Thanks to the swift response and coordination between school staff and law enforcement the incident was resolved quickly and safely,” Avila said.
