Safford PD arrests middle schooler following shooting threats

SAFFORD — A middle schooler who used social media to threaten his fellow students and teachers has been taken into custody.

On Thursday, Sept. 21, the Safford Police school resource officer investigated the threats, wherein the suspect claimed fellow students would be shot, bombs planted around the school, and teachers and staff assaulted.

During an interview with the child and the child’s parent, the child admitted to making the threats, but did not have access to any weapons.

The child was placed under arrest and charged with making a terrorist threat, false reporting of terrorism, interference with or disruption of an educational institution, and threatening. The child was then transported to the Juvenile Detention Facility.
