THATCHER — The chance to get healthy food, at a low price, returns this Saturday, courtesy of the Safford Lions Club.

The first Saturday of each month, the Safford Lions Club, in conjunction with Borderlands Produce Rescue, hosts the PowWow — Produce on Wheels Without Waste.

For a $12 donation, recipients receive up to 70 pounds of produce.

“We always have a variety, and I’m sure, in that variety, you’ll be able to find something that you enjoy,” said Safford Lions Club’s Geri Gibbs.

The goal is to prevent excess produce from going to waste and the PowWow program saves about 32 million pounds of produce each year.

The drive-through PowWow will take place Saturday, April 2, in the parking lot of the Home Depot. The event starts at 7 a.m. and continues until 10 or until supplies run out.
