SAFFORD — After multiple listening sessions, the City of Safford has found space for a new public parking lot.

The new lot is located on Discovery Park Boulevard, near Mt. Graham High School, and will serve visitors to the school, to the Safford Cemetery and to users of the multi-use path. It can also serve as overflow parking for Kouts Park once development has been completed.

In November 2024 the City of Safford conducted a breakfast listening session where members of the public and business owners could talk with city officials on the topic of parking.

A listening session in February 2025 was planned to be about special events in the Downtown but turned into another discussion on the need for more parking in the city.

The new lot on Discovery Park Boulevard brings the total number of city operated free parking lots to five, with the other four in the Downtown area — on the northwest corner of Main Street and 6th Avenue, on the northeast corner of 6th Avenue and Highway 70, on the northeast corner of Main Street and Central Avenue and on the south side of Highway 70 between Central and 3rd avenues. Plus the public can park in the south half of the west parking lot for City Hall.
