SAFFORD — The tax rate assessed to properties by the City of Safford is going down, but the amount collected by the city is going up.
The City Council held an emergency meeting Monday, Aug. 17, when it was discovered the property tax levy rate for Fiscal Year 2026-27 had not been formally adopted.
The council adopted a levy rate of 0.5107, down from last year’s rate of 0.5135.
Despite the rate reduction, the city will collect more in property tax due to property values continuing to increase.
Under the new rate, Safford will collect $342,329, up 2 percent from last year’s collection of $335,482.
