SAFFORD — In July 2023, fund-raising started for a new Gila Valley sober living facility for women. Five months later, ground was broken. Now, 15 months later, the ribbon will be cut opening the facility.

Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition will host the dedication and ribbon-cutting for the Kathy Grimes Caring Hearts Sober Living Home for Women on Monday, March 31, at 10 a.m.

The new facility is located at 630 W. 1st St. in Safford, next door to the Marge Schade House of Hope Sober Living Facility for Men.

Major donors for the project include Freeport-McMoRan, the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties, Arizona Complete Health, and Graham County Courts and Attorney’s Office.

Sober living facilities help those coming out of rehab transition back into the community, as well as provide meeting space for those in 12-step programs. The live-in facility requires sobriety, counseling, community service and helps residents obtain driver’s licenses and jobs.
