Ramon Macias Merino Sr

Ramon Macias Merino Sr., born February 6, 1931, in Morenci, Arizona, age 91 and a resident of Clifton and a United States Army veteran, entered into eternal rest Thursday evening, January 26, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by: His wife Rosie Merino, his four kids, Linda Quinonez, Charlene Lizarraga, Armand Merino, and Mary Merino. As well as his grandkids, great-grand kids, and great-great grandkids.

In 1955, Mon was drafted into the United States Army. During his active duty, he was selected as a Presidential Honor Guard. He served a total of 2 years active duty and 6 more years in the Army reserves.

Ramon was well known for the legacy he left within the Morenci Phelps Dodge Mine. Retiring with a total of 40 years with the company fulfilling multiple positions to end his career as a Shift Foreman where his coworkers knew him as “Ray”. After retirement he went back to work for 5 more years with Southwest Energy.  Mon was also known for his strong faith as a Catholic man. Ramon and Rosie served the Morenci Holy Cross Church for more than 20 years in the choir and as a catechism teacher. One of his major accomplishments he could not stop boasting about was the life, love, and family he and Rosie built within their 67 years of marriage.. Our family Patriarch will leave more than a legacy, he leaves many real-life examples of strong core values to pass down through generations to come. Our husband, father, grandfather and brother will be dearly missed. Our Mon was welcomed into the loving arms of our heavenly father, his son Ramon Merino Jr., grandson Trinidad Quinonez, daughters Mary Helen Merino Diaz, Arlene Merino, Darleen Merino, Cecilia Merino, and parents Antonio and Josefa Merino.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ramon was celebrated Monday morning, February 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morenci by Rev. Nathaniel Mma. Committal followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

A Rosary and prayers were offered Monday morning, February 6, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morenci.
