Prescribed pile burning on Mount Graham to resume Wednesday

GRAHAM COUNTY — Prescribed pile burning will continue on Mount Graham, despite the recent winter weather.

On X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday, the Coronado National Forest said the burning activity will resume today and run through the weekend, depending on weather conditions.

Officials said that U.S. Highway 366 is not expected to be impacted by the smoke.

The U.S. Weather Service-Tucson announced a winter weather advisory for Thursday, with 4 to 8 inches of snow in the mountains, 1 to 4 inches of snow in elevations above 4,500 feet, and snow flurries but no accumulation above 3,500 feet elevation.

Strong winds are also predicted, with gusts as high as 55 miles an hour in the mountains.
