Prescribed burn north of Morenci to start Wednesday

CLIFTON — A prescribed burn in the Clifton Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest is expected to start this week and continue into May.

The East Eagle Prescribed Fire project is located about 30 miles north of Morenci, and will encompass 13,416 acres. Smoke will be visible from portions of State Highway 191 and along Eagle Creek.

The burns, weather permitting, will continue through May 15.

The prescribed burn is a cooperative effort between the U.S. Forest Service, San Carlos Apache Tribe, National Forest Foundation, Arizona Game and Fish Department, the Mule Deer Foundation and Salt River Project.
