SAFFORD — A snowball fight in Safford?

That’s just one of the activities in which children will be able to take part during the 22nd annual Merry Main Street and Tree Lighting event on Safford’s Main Street on Friday. Nov. 24, starting at 5:30 p.m.

The snowballs — light, spongy white balls — are sponsored by Ginaveve’s Marketplace, and will take place near Willa’s Cottage, which is sponsoring free face painting.

Kym Gifford is doing double duty for Merry Main Street, with her properties, the Venue on Main and the Vignette, sponsoring the Gingerbread House judging contest. And her other business, Keyhole Properties, sponsoring additional snowball games.

The Vignette will also be the place to get a free Merry Memories holiday photo, sponsored by Gila Valley Photo Booth.

Cornhole debuted at the 2022 Merry Main Street event, under the sponsorship of the Graham County Chamber of Commerce. This year, the GFWC Woman’s Club of Safford will sponsor the cornhole contests.

Two of last year’s most popular attractions are sponsored by the GFWC Woman’s Club of Safford — the Pie-Eating Contest and cornhole. Both events are open to adults as well as children and cash prizes will be award in three different age groups.

Both the Pie-Eating Contest and cornhole will take place in the parking lot of the Graham County Health Department annex (the old Stockman’s Bank building)

Other activities that evening will include mountains of snow on City Hall lawn, a kiddie korral, basketball toss, sugar cone trees and more. Plus children will be able to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and enjoy the lighting of the Christmas Tree. All activities and contests are free.
