PIMA — The increasing number of athletic opportunities for children living in Pima has prompted the Town Council to begin considering the hiring of a recreation supervisor.

Amanda Rogers, who has volunteered to administer the programs over the past five years, said the workload has become too great.

“With the additional athletic programs that have been added over the years, there’s enough work to be done that hiring an athletic specialist would be (warranted),” she said.

Pima offers town-sponsored baseball, soccer, swimming, basketball and, starting in 2021, volleyball to the town’s youths.

“The soccer league has grown significantly,” said Mayor C.B. Fletcher. “In 2016 there were six Pee Wee teams, six Junior teams and four Senior teams. In 2020, there were 10 Pee teams, 10 Junior teams and six Senior teams . . . there was a record of 273 kids who registered for soccer.”

The Town Council unanimously agreed to bring the issue of hiring a recreation specialist forward during the council’s next meeting in November.
