PRESCOTT VALLEY — Coming into their quarterfinal matchup with St. Johns, Pima head coach Roy Corona knew his team would be in for a physical opponent. He was right. The game had more fouls than points in the first half as the Riders led 12-9 at halftime.

Jayci McClain hit a 3 pointer on the opening possession of the 3rd quarter and that opened to the flood gates for Pima’s offense. They would hit 4 more 3’s in the half and cruise to a 43-22 win over St. Johns.

The quest for a 3-peat for Pima moves into the semifinals. Pima will play #2 San Carlos on Friday, February 24th at 9am at Arizona Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum. San Carlos beat Leading Edge 52-31.

On the boy’s side of the bracket, the Roughriders needed all 4 quarters to get past Trivium Prep. The Crimson Knights jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead, but Pima kept their composure and whittled their way back in by hitting short jumpers against the Trivium zone defense.

Pima led by as many as 12 points throughout the second half as they fed Seth Russell inside. The Riders held on to win 52-43. The Riders will head to the 2A semifinals for the second straight season. They will play #6 Arizona Lutheran at 10:30am on Friday at Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum. The Coyotes beat Rancho Salano Prep 60-51 on Saturday.

Both games will be broadcast locally on KATO 1230 AM and can be heard live for free by clicking here.
