SAFFORD — A vehicle found itself on its side after failing to stop at a stop sign and mishandling a turn on 12th Avenue, near 26th Street and Glenn Meadows last week.

Concern about speeding in residential areas prompted a resident of the area to reach out to local media, and Gila Valley Central received a statement from Safford Police Chief Glen Orr.

“We have not seen a large increase in speeding within the residential areas. There has always been a speeding issue in residential areas with people trying to get to and from their homes, and new drivers when they come of age to drive,” Orr said in an e-mail.

“We will continue to enforce not only speeding infractions but also DUI enforcement in these areas. We only have one speed trailer and we move it around the city quite often based on the complaints we get. Officers are working traffic as much as they can between calls and report writing.”
