October up to 420 new cases of coronavirus

SAFFORD — There have been 198 new cases of COVID-19 and two coronavirus-related deaths in Graham County over the past nine days.

That’s according to data released by Graham County Health Department.

Those new cases bring the total in October thus far to 420, and 7,427 since the start of the pandemic.

The death total in October thus far is 12, the second greatest number of coronavirus-related deaths in Graham County this year, behind 14 in January. Since the start of the pandemic, 113 Graham County residents have died from COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center reports the average number of patients hospitalized due to coronavirus climbed slightly over the past week, from a daily average of 7 as of Oct. 13 to 9 as of Oct. 29.

The percent of those hospitalized due to COVID-19 who are unvaccinated also went up, from 94.66 percent as of Oct. 13, to 95.4 percent as of Oct. 20.

Since MGRMC began issuing weekly updates in September, the unvaccinated have accounted for no less than 93 percent of all persons hospitalized locally for coronavirus.

Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, in partnership with the United Way of Greenlee Counties, is offering free drive-up COVID-19 testing at the hospital’s Copper Mountain Clinic.

Free drive-up testing takes place Monday through Friday, from 1-7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Graham County continues to offer free vaccinations for anyone over the age of 12 at the vaccination clinic on Main Street in Safford.
