October COVID-19 cases exceeding July peak

SAFFORD — The free coronaviurus testing blitz Friday resulted in 30 new cases in the Gila Valley.

Graham County Health Department reported 46 new cases over the past three days — five Saturday, 10 Sunday and 31 Monday — bringing the county’s total to 1,151. Of that total, 332 of the cases are considered active.

October is outpacing July for the month in Graham County with the most cases thus far of COVID-19. In July — the month considered the first peak — Graham County saw 288 cases through the 26th of the month, while there have been 300 new cases through October 26.

Graham County currently has a positivity rate of 14.6 percent per the Arizona Department of Health Services, and 2.96 percent of the county’s total population has tested positive thus far.

There also a COVID-19 related death over the weekend — a Pima resident over the age of 65. That brings the total number of deaths to 28, with a mortality rate of 2.43 percent.

Greenlee County Health Department reported three new cases over the weekend two Saturday and one Sunday.

That brings Greenlee County’s total to 103, with 41 of the cases considered active and two deaths.

Greenlee County’s positivity rate is currently at 17.6 percent per AZDHS, and 1.09 percent of the county’s total population has tested positive thus far.
