SAFFORD — Schools received funding for eight projects in the latest round of grant funding from the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties.
On Monday, the local United Way announced its regular monthly grant recipients for the month, and a total of $48,951.05 was distributed.
Recipients include:
Education
- $5,000 — Solomon Elementary School for the Ozobots program
- $4,841.97 — Pima Junior High for the Band program
- $4,080.72 — Morenci High School for CAT classes
- $3,936.44 — Fairbanks Middle School for library equipment
- $3,105.39 — Fairbanks Middle School for eighth grade math materials
- $3,000 — Metcalf Elementary School for the Reading Group project
- $3,000 — Fairbanks Middle School for third group work spaces
Health
- $4,770.25 — Pima Unified School District for the Vision Screening program
Economic Stability
- $4,436.28 — Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry for the Summer Youth program
Sponsorships
- $4,870 — EAC Small Business Development Center for the Moonshot program
- $4,000 — Love Outreach Ministries for the Backpack Giveaway event
- $4,000 — Town of Duncan for the Fourth of July event
Even more funding could be doled out in June.
“Our applications, we ended up with 28 in our Cycle 2, and that just closed May 1,” said Amanda Patterson, grants manager for United Way. “Those are currently being reviewed; we just assigned them to our Community Grant Advisory Committee. Also our board will get a head-start on them because there are so many . . . and they’ll vote on them in June.”
The United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties makes grants to nonprofit, educational and governmental organizations thanks to donations from Freeport-McMoRan Foundation and Freeport employees; employees of the City of Safford, Town of Thatcher and Graham County; and individual donors.
