THATCHER — Despite time running out before everything could be put up for bid, the Friends of the Safford Library still managed to raise nearly $10,000 in the fourth annual Library Radio Auction Friday.
The auction brought in $8,820, plus a $1,000 donation by Southwestern Power Group and Rio Sol.
“I just felt like (it was) another great success, and it’s something we can build on every year,” said Paul David, member of the Friends of the Library and co-organizer of the auction with Paulette LeBlanc.
A direct cremation service donated by McDougal Caldwell Funerals and Cremations went for the highest bid at $1,100; followed by four tickets to a Cardinals-Commanders game at $800 and four tickets to an ASU-BYU game at $500, both donated by Double R Communications.
“Things like this are very unique to this Valley, and I know the staff appreciates all the hard work they (Friends of the Library) put in every single day,” said Safford Library Director Victoria Silva, “And the support of the local business; we really do value that and are appreciative of it.”
A number of items remain to be sold, auctioned or raffled, including vehicle service from Johnson Motors, an American Flag art piece donated by Valley Furniture, memorabilia autographed by Justin Gaethje, season tickets for the Gila Valley Arts Council performing arts series, and a home security package donated by Country Financial.
The Friends of the Library will announce at a future date how those items can be obtained.
