SAFFORD — United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties announced its Cycle 3 and regular monthly grant recipients for September on Tuesday, and more than $1 million is being disbursed for projects and programs across the two counties.
The Cycle 3 grants total $967,158.25 across three main target areas — education, health and economic stability.

- $200,000 — Safford Fire Department regional training classroom
- $50,000 — Graham County Cooperative Extension Americorps program
- $50,000 — Greenlee County Cooperative’s Greenlee County Nutrition Education program
- $10,000 — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern AZ’s High School Leaders Mentoring program
- $10,000 — Pima High School Show Choir

- $160,000 — SEACUS’ Aging Services support
- $100,000 — Mt Graham Safe House’s Greenlee County Shelter infrastructure
- $75,000 — Tooth BUDDS’ Mobile School Based Oral Hygiene program

- $50,000 — Our Neighbors Farm & Pantry’s Meeting Neighbors Needs

Grant applications for Cycle 4, which focuses on Holiday Giving, will be accepted now through Oct. 10.
The United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties makes grants to nonprofit, educational and governmental organizations thanks to donations from Freeport-McMoRan Foundation and Freeport employees; employees of the City of Safford, Town of Thatcher and Graham County; and individual donors.
