More locations for free summer meals for kids

PIMA — There are more chances for Gila Valley families to get free meals for kids this summer.

The Arizona Department of Health Services’ AZ Health Zone webpage lists three additional meal locations — Solomon, Pima and Fort Thomas elementary schools.

Breakfast is offered from 7:45-8:45 a.m., and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, at Solomon Elementary. All meals are dine-in in the cafeteria. The program runs until July 18.

Meals are also dine-in at the Pima Elementary cafeteria. Breakfast is served 8-9:30 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, now though July 3.

It’s dine-in as well in the Fort Thomas Elementary cafeteria. Breakfast is served 7:30-8 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m. to noon, Mondays through Thursdays. The program ends on June 27.

The Safford Summer Food Program runs through July 12, and offers breakfast-lunch combo meals via drive-through at Safford Middle School, from 9-11:30 a.m., Mondays through Fridays.

Safford Unified School District is also making the meals available to participants in the Boys and Girls Club of the Gila Valley’s Summer Program.

The meals are free to all children 18 years old and younger, regardless of where they attend school. There are no income requirements or forms to complete. Adults may purchase a meal for $6 each.

The Duncan and Clifton-Morenci Food Banks are also making meals available to area children.

Both food banks are distributing free to each child five daily breakfast packs and two full-size items for the weekend.

Distribution is at the Duncan Food Bank, 210 Gale Ave., on Wednesdays, starting at 8 a.m., now through July 31; and at the Clifton-Morenci Food Bank, 375 Shannon Rd., on Thursdays, starting at 11 a.m., now through Aug. 1, except for July 4, when distribution moves to Wednesday, July 3.

Distribution in Duncan is limited to the first 125 children each day, while it’s the first 100 children in Clifton.

There are also food distributions for all ages through a number of food banks.

Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry in Safford distributes food Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8 a.m. to noon. Identification is required.

St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Bank in Safford also distributes Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to noon. Identification and proof of Graham County residency required.

Thatcher food distribution is the second Wednesday of the month, from 9-10 a.m., at Herb Winsor Ballfields.

Angel’s Closet Clothing Bank and Food Pantry, in Safford, distributes the first Tuesday of every month, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Clifton Food Bank distributes on the second Friday and third Thursday of each month, from 9:30-11 a.m. each day. Identification and proof of Greenlee County residency required, and recipients must meet income guidelines. The Duncan Food Bank distributes the second Wednesday of the month, from 3:30-5 p.m., and the fourth Tuesday of the month, from 9-10:30 a.m. Identification and proof of Greenlee County residency required, and recipients must meet income guidelines.
