Merry Main, Light Parade coming back

SAFFORD — Safford Downtown Association announced the return of two holiday favorites.

After a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the 20th Merry Main Street will return the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26.

The event, on Safford’s Main Street, starts at 5:30 p.m. with the lighting of the tree in front of Safford’s City Hall. That is immediately followed by holiday activities throughout Safford’s Downtown; including visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus; the popular scavenger hunt; and plenty of food, rides and games for children.

The 24th Country Financial Light Parade will take place just one week later, on Saturday, Dec. 4.

The event gets under way at 4 p.m., when Santa visits with boys and girls. At 5 p.m. entertainment will begin and the parade, down Safford’s Main Street, will take start at 6 p.m.

All parade entries must be completely lit and no items may be tossed from the floats.

Parade entries are now being accepted at the Safford City Annex and must be submitted by Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.

Applications for booth spaces for Merry Main Street and the Holiday Light Parade are also being accepted. Cost is $30 per space per event, and deadline is no later than 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23.
