THATCHER — Eastern Arizona College’s Mickelson Field is the place to remember the sacrifice of first responders who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City.
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will take place Monday, Sept. 11, from 5-9:30 p.m.
Participants will recreate on the field’s bleachers the 110 floors and 2,071 stairs climbed by first responders trying to rescue as many survivors as possible following the attack on the World Trade Center.
“I cannot explain what an incredible experience this is. If you have the opportunity to come participate, or just experience, you don’t want to miss it. This is a community event, but students will earn extra credit for participating,” organizer Leah Meehl said in an e-mail to Gila Valley Central.
Groups of 50 will start the climb every 45 minutes. As of Wednesday, Aug. 30, the remaining slots are:
● 17 available at 5 p.m.
● 24 available at 5:45 p.m.
● 39 available at 6:30 p.m.
● 16 available at 7:15 p.m.
● 47 available at 8 p.m.
● 50 available at 8:45 p.m.
