Mary Earl Agee (Whinery) 91, formerly of Safford, joined her husband in the presence of her Heavenly Father on Monday, September 5, 2016. Mary was born on February 23, 1925 to Thurman and Nita Whinery in Santa Rosa, NM.
She spent most of her childhood in Duncan, AZ where she met the love of her life, Les Agee, and snuck away to marry him on January 17, 1942; just shy of her 17th birthday. She spent the next 72 years devoted to him and their family. Mary and Les lived in Lordsburg, NM, Denton, TX, Ehrenberg, AZ, and Gallup, NM while Les worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company before they finally retired in Safford, AZ. They spent over 25 years in Safford enjoying retirement and serving in the LDS church which was so near and dear to her heart.
A very simple woman, Mary loved to “visit”. Her greatest joys and happiest of times were when someone would come over to the house, sit on the couch or porch swing and just “visit”. She adored her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren more than life itself. Mary loved her family with a quiet, compassionate nature and we all are her greatest accomplishment. She was the heart of our family. We are graciously blessed by the gentle, caring and influential matriarch that she was. She leaves a legacy that will be treasured by us all.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Kenneth (Shondra) Agee, Gary (Raelene) Agee, her niece Kathy Mack, whom she loved and adored as her own, 6 granddaughters, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-granddaughters, and a great niece and her family.
Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband Les, and her sister and brother-in-law, Bertha and Buck Gidney.
