March averaging just 4 new coronavirus cases per day

SAFFORD — There were 40 new cases of COVID-19 in the first nine days of March, the lowest amount of new cases to start a month since June 2021.

The Graham County Health Department announced the cases Wednesday.

March is averaging slightly more than four new cases per day, down 86 percent from February’s average of 27 cases per day and down 94 percent from January’s average of 71 cases per day.

Graham County has experienced 11,918 cases of COVID-19, and 172 coronavirus-related deaths, since the start of the pandemic two years ago.

Arizona Department of Health Services reports 50.4 percent of Graham county’s population has been vaccinated for coronavirus. Graham County Health Department is providing free vaccines to anyone 5-years-old and older, and free boosters to anyone 12 and older. Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, in partnership with the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties, is offering free drive-up COVID-19 testing at the hospital’s Copper Mountain Clinic. Free drive-up testing takes place Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon.
