A family gathering at the fairgrounds over the weekend was marred by a man who tried picking a fight with his brother-in-law. Deputies were called to the scene after the man allegedly pulled out a switchblade during the altercation. Other family members subdued the man until law enforcement arrived.
When deputies arrived, they found the disorderly man being held down. The man was trying to escape and when deputies took charge of the man, he kicked one of them, knocking his bodycam off. Authorities told him they would let go of him if he cooperated, but instead, he called them, “Pigs,” and continued to resist.
Witnesses said the man kept heckling his brother-in-law, trying to get him to fight. As tensions between the two increased, the man pulled out a switchblade and threatened his brother-in-law. At that point other people got between them and subdued the knife-wielding man until authorities arrived. Family members said they believed drugs and alcohol was a factor in the man’s behavior.
Deputies wrestled the man into the back seat of a patrol car but he kicked the window out and climbed out. He was eventually secured in another patrol vehicle and taken to the hospital for medical clearance before being taken to the Graham County Jail where he continued to resist authorities and had to be subdued.
