Man caught wildcat dumping in the desert, girlfriend complains about social media posts

GRAHAM COUNTY — Littering in the desert led to a citation and two calls to the Graham County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called out to an area about a quarter-mile in the desert off South Barney Lane on Jan. 2, when a witness spotted multiple bags of trash. Deputies sifted through the garbage and found a receipt that tracked to a resident on High Mesa Road.

The man denied dumping the trash in the desert multiple times before first saying the bags might have dropped off his trailer, before admitting to the wildcat dumping.

He was cited for criminal littering and ordered to pick up the trash under the watchful eyes of his girlfriend’s parents.

About two and half hours later, deputies returned to the High Mesa Road home, because the girlfriend said people were talking about her on Facebook.

Deputies reviewed the posts and determined there were no threats, just photos of the trash and the woman’s name on a discarded receipt.

Deputies informed the woman they had no authority to order the removal of the posts; however, they did contact the poster to inform them that the woman was not the one who dumped the trash in the desert.

The poster then said she would remove the posts.
