Man arrested, meth seized in traffic stop

SAFFORD — A traffic stop resulted in the seizure of more than 14 pounds of methamphetamine.

Safford Police reported the traffic stop of a vehicle exiting a local hotel occurred Saturday, May 8. In a press release, Safford Police reported “an illegal item was seen in plain view during the stop and the driver was arrested.” The item in view was not detailed.

The driver was only identified as a 43-year-old male from New Mexico, driving a vehicle registered out of Wisconsin.

During the search of the vehicle, 14.5 pounds of meth was discovered. A search warrant was obtained and another search was conducted on a hotel room. Police report that “other items were located during the search”; however, other than the suspect’s identification, what those items were was not disclosed.

Thatcher Police and Graham County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the incident.
