A group sitting around a campfire in the area of Central Cemetery Saturday night heard gunshots at approximately 11:00 PM. The group immediately left the area and called authorities. The group reportedly heard three or four more gunshots while they were driving away. Deputies and a Pima police office responded to the area after receiving multiple reports of domestic violence and gunshots.
A deputy responded to the source of the domestic dispute and talked to a man and a woman at a residence in the area. They said that the woman’s husband came home and accused the other man (who lives with the couple) of cheating with his wife. After a brief physical skirmish, the husband left the residence and discharged his firearm several times. The man’s wife then called him and asked him to come back to the house so they could talk. The man came back and apologized and left again to get a drink at the gas station in Pima.
On the way there, he was pulled over by a Pima police officer because one of his headlights was out. During the stop the officer asked the man if he had heard gunshots in the area. The man replied, “That was me.” He went on to tell the officer that his wife had cheated on him with his best friend, who was also a roommate. He was distraught and went out into the desert and turned the gun on himself but couldn’t pull the trigger. Instead, he fired multiple shots into the ground. He told the officer that he was on his way to the store to get a drink before going back to his home. The man was arrested for Assault and Disorderly Conduct.
