Man arrested after allegedly pointing gun at rock hunters

A couple looking for rocks in the area of Haekel and Gas Line Roads called 911 on Saturday to report a male who had allegedly threatened them with a gun. They said the alleged gunman was driving a gold Chrysler 200. Deputies arrived and spoke to the victims, who said that they had been in the area looking for rocks and as they were leaving the area, they encountered the gold vehicle. As they drove past, the driver allegedly pointed a gun at them and demanded to know why they were there. The victims stated that they were just hunting for rocks and drove away. At this point the gunman reportedly jumped out of his vehicle and ran after them.

As deputies were talking to the victims, they spotted the gold sedan. They pulled it over and ordered the occupants out of the vehicle. They placed the male driver in handcuffs and placed him in the back seat of their patrol vehicle. The man told authorities that he and his wife had been camping in the area the night before when the other vehicle arrived and shined their headlights into the alleged gunman’s campsite. He said that he and his wife thought they must be “gang bangers” and worried about their safety with the other party in the area.

The man claimed that he had held the gun up in its holster and denied pointing it at the other couple. The victims had recorded the incident on a mobile phone, which corroborated the events. Although the gun was not visible on the video, the male victim could be heard asking why the other man was pointing a gun at him. The alleged gunman was arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Reckless Display of a Weapon.
