Lookout fire in Greenlee grows to 254 acres

GREENLEE COUNTY — One of the wildfires in northern Greenlee County, near the Apache County border, has reduced slightly, while the other has doubled in size.

The Lookout fire, near Forest Road 25 west of Reno Lookout Tower, has grown to 254 acres. It was first discovered July 24.

About 6 miles to the northeast is the Clear Cut Tank fire, west of Hannagan Meadow near Lost Lake. The fire, discovered July 16, is at 104 acres.

Both fires were started by lightning, and both are at 0-percent containment.

Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest reports two hand crews, three engines, one water tender and two dozers have been assigned to fight the fires.

The fire is resulting in the closure of Forest Service lands along Forest Road 24, from FR26 to FR576.

Just north of the Greenlee-Apache border, in the Wallow fire footprint near the west fork of the Black River, is the lightning-started Draw fire.

The fire has grown to 314 acres and is at 11-percent containment.

The White Mountain Incident Management Team reports three helicopters, three hotshot crews, one hand crew, one Type 2 wildland fire module, seven engines, three dozers, one excavator/masticator and one branch feller have been assigned to the fire.
