PERIDOT — Gila Valley drivers heading to the Phoenix metro area may encounter travel delays this week.
Arizona Department of Transportation announced U.S. Highway 70 will be reduced to one lane, with alternating east- and westbound travel, between mileposts 274-276, Monday, Dec. 15, and Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The lane restrictions are in place while crews construct a new passing lane.
Flaggers will assist drivers through the work zone, and the speed limit will be reduced to 25 miles per hour.
ADOT also announced that U.S. Highway 60 will be closed in both directions between mileposts 227-243 Tuesday, Dec. 16, through Thursday, Dec. 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
The closure is for the Queen Creek and Waterfall Canyon bridges replacement project.
Drivers will be detoured to Winkelman via State Routes 77 and 177. The roughly 75-mile detour is estimated to add about an hour to trips between the Gila Valley and the Phoenix metro area.
Motorists should plan for extra travel time and use caution when traveling through the work zones.
